At KeHE®, we’re proud to celebrate team members whose dedication, resilience, and heart help shape the culture that makes this company so special. This month, we’re excited to feature Debra Fletcher, HR Shared Services Specialist, who works remotely from Indiana.

For nearly 13 years, Debra has built a career defined by growth, curiosity, and a deep belief in the power of opportunity. Her journey, from warehouse associate to HR Specialist, embodies what it truly means to dream bigger at KeHE.

Q: What inspired you to join KeHE, and what was your first impression of the company?

A: My uncle recommended KeHE, sharing that it was a great place to work, and he helped me secure my very first position here. My first impression was excitement—there were so many possibilities ahead of me, and I remember feeling eager to embrace every opportunity.

Q: How has your role evolved during your time at KeHE, and what lessons have you learned along the way?

A: My role has evolved drastically over the years. I began as an Eaches Picker in the warehouse and eventually learned every selection area. From there, I moved into a utility associate role, followed by a short time as a receiver. After that, I became the Assistant to the Director of Operations, a role I held for about seven years, where I expanded my knowledge beyond operations and into HR.

Today, I’m proud to serve as an HR Shared Services Specialist. What I’ve learned is that KeHE is a place where you can dream bigger, opportunities to grow are everywhere if you’re willing to step into them.

Q: Can you share a standout memory or experience at KeHE that holds a special meaning for you?

A: About six months into my career, I was in an accident that restricted my ability to continue warehouse work. Although the situation was challenging, it became a turning point. I was given the chance to fill in as the Assistant to the Director of Operations.

The director saw potential in me that I didn’t yet see in myself. He encouraged me to believe in my abilities, set goals, and chase new opportunities. That moment lit a fire in me and showed me that setbacks don’t have to define your path—they can redirect it.

Q: What opportunities have helped you grow personally and professionally during your time at KeHE?

A: Stepping into the assistant role early in my career was foundational. Later, filling in for our local HRBP while she was on leave opened my eyes to the HR world and helped me gain clarity about the direction I wanted to pursue. Each of these experiences shaped not only my skills, but also my confidence to go after my current role.

Q: What changes at KeHE have made the biggest impact on you, your work, or the company culture?

A: Becoming fully 100% employee-owned has made a huge impact. When KeHE bought back the remaining shares, it reinforced the mindset that this company truly belongs to all of us. It felt like paying off a home or a car—you realize that everything you invest directly benefits you and your fellow employee-owners.

Q: How have your colleagues and the KeHE community shaped your experience?

A: From the very beginning, my colleagues have been incredible. Their support has kept me motivated through challenges and successes. In my current role, I feel deeply supported—my leader believes in me, encourages my growth, and challenges me to expand my skills.

It’s incredibly rewarding to know that the people around you want you to succeed. That sense of community is one of the biggest reasons I’ve stayed at KeHE all these years.
