Over the past 15 years, Gayla has built an impressive career at KeHE, progressing through multiple roles across the business while developing a deep understanding of the organization and the power of collaboration. Her journey reflects a commitment to continuous learning, thoughtful leadership, and building strong partnerships that drive results.
Q: What is your current position, and which KeHE location do you work at?
A: I am the Business Operations Manager for the Albertsons account. I work remotely and live near the Elkton Distribution Center, which I visit frequently.
Q: How long have you been with KeHE, and what inspired you to join the company? What was your first impression?
A: I’ve been with KeHE for 15 years.
I was inspired to join KeHE by the opportunity to be part of a company that values both people and purpose. From my very first impression, it was clear that KeHE had a strong culture centered around collaboration, respect, and doing the right thing. I feel incredibly fortunate to be part of the KeHE family and to have built my career alongside so many talented and dedicated team members.
Q: How has your role evolved during your time at KeHE, and what lessons have you learned along the way?
A: I began my career at KeHE as an Assistant Collection Specialist (Administrative Assistant) and have since advanced through several roles across different areas of the business. Each opportunity expanded my perspective and deepened my understanding of how the organization operates.
One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned is the importance of truly listening and understanding how each team impacts another. That perspective has shaped how I approach decision-making—engaging key stakeholders, considering broader business impacts, and working collaboratively to determine the best path forward. Taking a thoughtful and inclusive approach has been essential to driving strong outcomes throughout my career.
Q: Can you share a standout memory or experience at KeHE that holds special meaning for you?
A: One standout experience was contributing to a complex initiative that required close coordination across multiple teams to execute successfully.
What made the experience so meaningful was seeing people come together around a common goal—sharing expertise, anticipating challenges, and supporting one another every step of the way. It reinforced the power of teamwork, open communication, and diverse perspectives. More importantly, it reminded me of what can be accomplished when we align across the organization and work toward a shared objective.
Q: What opportunities have helped you grow personally and professionally during your time at KeHE?
A: The opportunity to work across different functions has been one of the most significant contributors to my growth. Each role expanded my business knowledge and helped me develop a broader understanding of how different parts of the organization work together to support our customers and business goals.
Partnering with teams across operations, supply chain, sales, and support functions has strengthened my communication skills, strategic thinking, and problem-solving abilities. Being entrusted with increasing levels of responsibility has also helped me grow as a leader by building confidence, accountability, and a results-oriented mindset.
Q: What changes at KeHE have made the biggest impact on you, your work, or the company culture?
A: One of the most impactful changes has been the increased focus on collaboration and alignment across the organization. As KeHE has continued to grow, there has been a clear shift toward more integrated ways of working and stronger cross-functional partnerships.
This evolution has influenced how I approach my role each day—prioritizing communication, engaging stakeholders early, and considering the broader impact of decisions to help drive stronger outcomes for both our teams and our customers.
Q: How have your colleagues and the KeHE community shaped your experience?
A: My colleagues and the broader KeHE community have played a meaningful role in shaping my experience and career growth. Working alongside diverse teams has strengthened my ability to collaborate, communicate effectively, and navigate complex business challenges.
